Judith Rayl ~ About the Artist
As a child, Judith loved both art and science. On weekends her parents would allow her to explore freely in museums, and she would happily roam the galleries. Judith pursued her education in medicine while continuing to be a passionate art lover. She retired from her medical career to focus her energy on the art world, exploring arts leadership.
In 2017, motivated by her immersion in the arts community, Judith began photography and embarked upon her art career. Since 2017 her work has been selected for 60+ exhibitions, with 14 solo shows and 6 awards. She was chosen for the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture Ethnic Artist Roster.
Judith seeks inspiration from the tender beauty seen at the intersection of nature and the human-made. Her scientific background is evident in her art as well; Judith uses natural refractive and reflective viewpoints to compose her single-capture images. For Judith, her art is a journey of healing, sharing stories of imperfectible beauty and becoming.
Judith’s art is also informed by her love of buddhist philosophy. She embraces presence in both her life and her art. She welcomes the impermanence of each moment; her single-capture photography uses no double images, layering, nor retouching.
Showing her art in gallery exhibitions has allowed Judith to build a deeper sense of community, and to experience a new visibility. For viewers of her art, Judith aspires to create moments of visual and emotional significance. She is passionate about creating connection and shared emotional territory through her art.
Judith lives on an island in Puget Sound with her family, surrounded by wild beautiful nature.
