Building New Worlds
through Abstract Environmental Photography Judith Rayl transforms ordinary household items into tabletop miniature landscape photographs, using her hand-built lens.
Through her award-winning images, she explores visible manifestations of our innermost states of being, while querying our relationship with Nature. No double images, post-processing, nor filtering are used in Judith’s innovative process. About the Artist Judith Rayl is a physician, stroke survivor, and experimental photographer. Her oeuvre manifests new worlds of restoration, repair, and remembrance. Its groundbreaking process advances the material, physical, and emotional possibilities of image-making. By utilizing repurposed materials, she promotes sustainable artistic practices. Judith’s work has been in 75 shows nationwide, including the 2025 Northwest Biennial. She is a 2025 Bloedel Reserve Community Creative, Tuŝis IV International Photography Contest winner, Harvard University Flourishing Network member, and Seattle Ethnic Artist Roster selectee.
